Onward

This November marks the 2nd anniversary of Doodle Mail. I’m so happy that you all continue to join me for silly drawing sheets and author news each month. To celebrate that there are more than 500 of you following, I’m doing a giveaway!

If you find yourself feeling full of rage (no particular reason, right?), might I suggest drawing yourself as a T-Rex? I created this sheet for Kids Con New England in Portland, Maine last weekend. I taught kids how to draw a few dinosaurs as well as this self-portrait exercise. Share with your students and if you get any fun portraits, I’d love to see them!

I had a great day at Kids Con. I sold lots of Mini Doodles books and enjoyed seeing so many cool costumed kids and adults. FYI, the publisher of Mini Doodles has a great buy 2 get 2 sale going on right now, perfect for early holiday shopping.

At the start of this month, I wrapped up a new picture book submission and sent it out into the world. Please keep your fingers crossed that it finds a great home - I adore this story and think it would bring some much-needed laughter and magic into the world.

I can’t show you that book yet, but I can share a little peek at THE KING OF BOOKS proofs that I received a few weeks ago. There is nothing quite like seeing the full-size printed pages of your book. If you use Edelweiss+, the digital arc is available now.

Work is fairly quiet but things over on Bluesky have been very busy! I’ve been tooting the Bluesky horn for a while, so it’s nice to see our Kid Lit community begin to adopt it as their primary social media watering hole. I have high expectations that the next #KidLitArtPostcard day (December 5th!) will be our busiest one yet. LISTENING TO: Entschuldigung! I am probably the last person to hop onto Duolingo. We are planning a family trip to Switzerland this summer, and since French is never going to be my language I’ve been working on my German skills. Every day I’m listening to that signature DING as I work my way through new vocabulary.

READING: Never Whistle at Night, an Indigenous Dark Fiction Anthology. I had a mild case of Covid over Halloween and this book kept me creepy company - it’s SO good.

WATCHING: The third season of FROM. If you loved Michael in LOST, you’ll probably enjoy this show that he stars in. I’m starting to get nervous that it won’t get picked up for a fourth season and ALL the questions will go unanswered. You do have to sign up for an obscure streaming service (MGM+), but you could also binge it on a 7 day free trial…
