How-To-Draw a Spotted Turtle, Warwick Recap, Bugs all around, and sharing Hidden in Nature
I love bugs!
I’m definitely still on a bug kick. From my last promotional art piece, to my new business cards, and now some collage-style bug stickers. I’ll have these for sale on my Etsy shop soon, and at KidsCon in Portland, Maine next month. Truth be told, I was planning on rolling these out today, but accidently ordered them on white, instead of transparent. If you have a classroom of kids (US only) that would love these (and puffins), drop me an email with your address at: [email protected]. I’ll give them away until I run out!

Let’s Draw a Spotted Turtle
Continuing the theme of pet drawing sheets, I present to you: spotted turtle. Certainly, owning a turtle is a big commitment. I’d be happy to find one in the wild or at a nature center. I just love their polka dots - they get more as they age!

This video was excellent to extend learning and see the spotted turtles in action.
Warwick Children’s Book Festival
I had a wonderful time at the Warwick Children’s Book Festival yesterday. It’s been so long since I’ve been to a big event with many authors. It was well attended, and I sold out of THE KING OF BOOKS well before the end of the day. It was so fun to connect with new readers and families. A big thank you to all the sponsors and volunteers who made it a great day for the authors and families!

It was also a chance to meet friends in person that I either hadn’t seen in several years or had never met in person. I am THE WORST about taking photos - this is actually the best I’ve done in a long time about catching photos with book friends.

Coming Up Next…
October 25th: Books-a-Million in Concord, NH from 1pm for a book signing.
November 15th: KidsConNE in Portland, Maine. I’m attending and teaching a workshop on drawing Super Sea Creatures. From 10-4pm.
Watching/Reading/Listening To
Watching: Task on HBO. It’s so good, and I’ll be sad when it’s over. I was away on Sunday, so I’m excited to catch up tonight (before I get spoiled!)
Reading: A Marriage at Sea by Sophie Emhirst. I actually listened to a podcast (You’re Wrong About) that summarized this story, but it was so compelling that when I saw the book at my library, I had to read it as well. If you like a survival at sea story, mixed with a tiny bit of 1970’s gender/marriage norm-breaking, this one is for you.
Listening to: Dinosaurs by Lydia Millet. This was a very soothing audiobook listen after a sort of unsettling (but great) horror book read. The main character is just so kind and likable. And while the story could have taken a few unsavory turns for dramatic effect, it instead stays true to the main character’s pure nature. It’s a story about finding community and meaning in an unconventional life.
